We were in Goa on a vacation going to the Baga beach by a rental bike. We were stopped by a stranger covered with cap and a helmet on that who started handing out two gift cards, explaining us some nonsense about holiday membership and stuff. He gave me and my wife two different gift cards and asked us to open. He suddenly glowed with happiness like we’ve won a million dollars. (It is all drama, which we didn’t realise by then.) Scratching the cards is the trap they lay out because no body wants to listen to what they have to bloody sell without anything in return. He said we have wonderful gifts and that we got lucky. He said we have to go for a club opening and at the end of 1 hour we would be colleting the gifts and going. He promised there is nothing he is selling.

I thought why the hell will I give him one hour of our precious time. But, we wanted to check if he would eventually give us any gifts. We went to the place where there were some of his agents welcoming us. They make us sit, pry into our details, holiday habits and other personal details. Soon, it was two hours. And they were already selling their concept of a membership where they have tie-ups with all leading 5 star hotel brands all over the world. If we are paying a one time membership fee of INR 2,00,000 and a yearly maintenance fee of INR 12,000+, we would be eligible for 6Days 7Nights stays per year in all exotic hotels and that they can be split too. They said the membership would actually cost 6,00,000 but on that day it is an offer at 2,00,000. So, after a few seconds we said no. Then they explained that it would only take us each 2500 per month on EMIs for 48-60 months. We were hesitant. Then they convinced us with the benifits again to take our credit cards to make the payment. We fell for it and paid the amount. They quickly asked us to sign some papers (aggreement papers) so casually that we did without really reasong some 38 clauses in there‼️ They rejoiced with their whole team who clapped for us and even took a picture.

After coming back to the hotel, we could not believe what we had just done. Only when we thought of the probability that if this was a scam we are so messed up, we became so distraught and desperate to know. When we Googled, booom! There were 60+ posts on this scam, more than 15 atleast from the month of December 2023, with each one explaining their pain and about the sequence of events.

Feeling that our whole vacation is now ruined, we had to go to the police station. We had issues finding the right police station based on the jurisdiction. After Mapusa and Calangute, we found Anjuna to be the right one. We went to file the complaint. But after listening to the whole story the SI said this isn’t a fraud in the eyes of law when the agreement is made. We waited for two more hours to get the same confirmation from the investigation officer. They said police barely have a role here, once the agreement is made.

This shattered all our hopes. They are scamming people by being right by the books. It will be a scam on any day, if the agreement isn’t being signed, and that is mainly because of the repeated complaint that they weren’t giving 4-5 star accommodations. They were only giving 1-2 star ones for their members and those who wanted refunds weren’t getting it.

Feeling so down, devoid of all hopes on humanity we came back from the station, and on the way back we were stopped by a different PIMP, trying to do the same gift card trick. Within minutes, there was one more stalking us as we entered the hotel. I shouted at the man so badly on the road, he immediately left. The next day morning, there was one more PIMP, an older one. They almost pass by us on the road, like overtaking us but stop, thereby blocking our path. We have no option but to hear his nonsense. They generally start like, “Hi sir and ma’am, how is your holiday going, please give me two minutes”. They approach us with a huge smile, and this time when this old fellow he got down from the bike, I screamed “Arrey, enough now! Get lost”. He immediately got back and ran away. But that wasn’t enough.

In my mind I screamed this, “Oh you sick son of a road whore! How can go on scamming innocent young people and that too those who have come to spend their days in peace!? May you ROT IN FUCKING HELL forever you but before that may all wealth you own on earth burn to ashes before your eyes!”

What did we loose?

It was our first anniversary and we wanted peace. Nothing else. We were heading to the beach but we never saw a beach in North Goa. As soon as this happened, out of shock or so, my wife was completely sick with fever. We were in Goa, but only inside the walls, doing nothing. Our holiday was absolutely RUINED by these scamsters.

We don’t party or drink. We are very simple South Indians who are maybe excited by some extravagance in life. Yes, maybe that is why they had us fooled.
