On requesting to apply for a new SIM at the Airtel Store (Airtel Store, 2-37/76, Vinayak Nagar, Gachibowli, Near ICICI Bank, Hyderabad, Telangana 500032), we were asked for a mandatory fingerprint biometric verification. I am uncomfortable in giving my fingerprint for privacy and security concerns, which are supported by a recent Supreme Court Ruling stating that biometrics for Adhaar verification cannot be compulsory in such cases.
The people at the counter has said that it was needed because they can only give the SIM after verification through their App which requires a fingerprint verification. If this is the only method to apply for a SIM card, then this App goes against choice, privacy and the current standing law. I would like to apply for a SIM without having to give out my finger print.
