Text of Complaint by Rajesh Kannan:

I had an extremely unpleasant experience with my latest orders on Amazon.

This is regarding 3 orders i placed for “Max Gift card” from my account 8197677600 on 15th August. Following are my order IDs
1. 171-4998002-4929166
2. 171-2526189-3533159
3. 404-0322308-3971577

The order value is 4940 rupees for each other.

Following is the sequence of events.

I visited nearby Max outlet and proceeded make payment for the items i wanted to purchase on 15th Aug. While i tried to make the payment, i was advised by the person at the billing desk to pay using max gift card that i can purchase from Amazon as i will get 8% on the same.

Upon his suggestion i placed my first order on amazon around 12 noon. Despite waiting for about 45 minutes at the store, i did not receive gift card on ny email and order was still showing as in process though the amount got deducted instantly. While i approached customer care, i was told that it might take upto 4 hours to process the order. I had to ask the store to reserve my order as i did not receive my gift card.

As i didn’t receive gift card after 4 hours, i made my second call to customer care. This time amazon customer care agent told me that the gift cards cannot be purchased using credit card, hence the issue. He also said he will cancel the order and i can place a fresh order using a different payment method. He also reaffirmed that the amount will be credited back to original payment source in 3-5 business days. Chat screenshots attached.

However he confirmed the first order was cancelled, i tried to place a new order using credit card again. But the second order has also been in the same status and the gift card never got delivered.

So taking his advice i placed my 3rd order but using my debit card this time. But even that didn’t get processed. So i made my 3rd call to customer care. After a long wait and multiple call transfers, the agent told me over call that there is a technical issue and all 3 orders will get cancelled from back end and i will receive my money back in 3-5 business days.

After spending my whole say in this mindless pursuit to place a simple order on amazon, i had to make my purchase from max stores using my credit card directly.

But i was relaxed as helpdesk guys repeated confirmed that all 3 gift card orders have been cancelled and i will get my money back.

Vut to my utter shock and disappointment, all they orders got processed today and the gift cards were sent to my mail id. I have immediately called customer care again and realised your people at customer care have no idea of how the whole process works. They said though they acknowledge the issue caused due to misleading information from amazon customer care, they cannot cancel the orders now and i will not get a refund. This was totally disappointing and unruly.

Why on earth should i bear the cost for the fault of amazon’s unqualified helpdesk. Despite my arbitration for hours together today, i heard the same answer without any empathy.

I would like to escalate this to the highest level and want this dispute to be resolved at the earliest as about 13500 rupees of my money is being held unethically by Amazon. I also want you to ensure severe action taken again the company representatives who provided misleading and false information to me and tried to cheat

Despite reaching their grievance desk multiple desk, i only received the same answer as helpdesk stating they will look into it internally and wouldn’t be processing my refund.
