Text of Complaint by Rajesh Kumar M:

Tata sky representative had called on my registered mobile number giving me an free offer of tata sky binge with firestick for 30 days along with amazon prime for 90 days as I was their very old and loyal customer. Even though I was reluctant and passed it off as a prank call he refered my customer id and my registered mobile number at tatasky and told me that the offer was genuine.

I asked him upfront if I had to pay anything for the device during the period. He told that there was absolutely no charge and though I told him that I will think about the offer at a later date he insisted that the offer is valid only for the day and anyways I will not be charged for anything and after 30 days I could return the firestick if I didnt like to continue with the future subscription which will cost Rs.249/- per month.

 

Since he insisted I agreed and asked him to install the same at my residence  and even when he came at the residence I cross checked if any amount will be deducted from my existing Tatasky account. He told there will be no such deductions and the offer is free for the 30 days. So I agreed and let him install the device and the amazon prime was also activated based on my registered mobile number.

 

Now, after 29 days of usage I called TATA Sky to remind them that the free period of that firestick was coming to a close and they could take back the device.

Now starts the harassment/armtwisting tactics from Tata Sky. First they asked me if I was happy with the programs , I said yes it was fine. Then, they asked me why I am not continuing with the firestick service. I told them that exams are close by and my daughter is studying in 10th standard and her exams are due now  and I shall subscribe for the same after two months once her exams are over.

For which the tata sky executive on phone told me that I will not be able to opt for the same if I dont pay it up now upfront. I told him that this was never informed to me at the time of providing the device inspite of me asking him many times as he was insisting that it was just free and I could return it back without any hassles.

I also asked him if I could pause the Tata Sky Binge for two months until her exams are over and then continue with the subsription. For that the representative tells me that in that case I will not be able to view any of the Tata Sky channels if I pause. ( There by restricting me to use the set top box and the normal channels which I have subscribed earlier) .

Since I was unhappy with the offer I told them that they can disconnect the fire stick offer and if I can continue with Amazon Prime for purchase and other facilities of Prime for which another 60 days were remaining from the initial 90 days of free offer which was made at the  time of providing the fire stick. For which the representative tells me that since I am not opting to continue with Tata Sky Binge I will not be able to utilize the remaining 60 days of Amazon Prime as it will be deactivated.

I think these are absurd logic, coz, first thing is I never contacted Tata Sky for any offer on my own. The so called offer was forced into me by tata sky. secondly, inspite of asking them  they didnt inform me of the after effects of not continuing the subscription at the end of the trail period., there by literally black mailing and arm twisting me into shelling out more money to TataSky inspite of me not being interested.

In view of the above mentioned facts I request your goodself to give me justice and allow me to enjoy the basic rights as a consumer and prevent Tata Sky or their representatives from harassing me  further.
