I had to cancel my booked bus ticket because of error on the web site of Redbus. However, Rs.400. was wrongly charged as cancellation fee by Redbus.

Text of Complaint by Rajeev Sangal:

A. Summary:

I had to cancel my booked bus ticket (see FIRST TICKET below), because of error on the web site of Redbus. However, Rs.400. was taken as cancellation charge by Redbus. Redbus should be orderd to refund the cancellation charge to me.

B. DETAILS:

(1) I tried to book bus ticket on 23rd Oct. 2023 through Redbus for TWO of us (husband and wife), from Jaipur to Indore, but it was not working for booking two tickets, even though 5 seats were available. Then I tried to book the tickets one by one. I successfully booked a ticket for one person for myself (details of ticket given below as “FIRST TICKET”).

(2) When I tried to book the second ticket for my wife on the same bus, I was unable to book the ticket on Redbus even though it was showing availability of four seats. Error started coming as: “UNKNOWN ERROR”. This error was repeated every time I tried. I even tried to do the reservation from a new tab on the browser, but the error persisted.

(3) I tried to contact the Customer Care Number of Redbus 94956 00000, an automated IVRS voice answered. I patiently went through it, but I was not able to reach any operator/executive, nor did my problem get resolved.

(4) Then I booked TWO tickets for myself and my wife, on the same date for the same source and destination cities on another bus (happens to be on the same bus operator). (details of ticket given below as “SECOND TICKET”).

(5) I cancelled my FIRST ticket, and a cancellation fee of Rs.400. was charged to me, for no fault of mine. The problem was with their website.

(6) I have been trying to contact the Customer Care Number of Redbus 94956 00000 the next day also, but their is only an IVRS system and the problem persists. There is no way to contact an operator/executive nor is there a way to send any message or email to Redbus.

C. REQUEST FOR Amelioration:

(i) The cancellation fee of Rs.400. charged to me on FIRST TICKET, should be refunded to me together with costs incurred in processing the case.

(ii) An EXAMPLARY PENALTY of a suitably large amount (say, Rs.20.lakhs) should be levied on REDBUS for providing no proper facilities for customer grievance redressal. This money should be given to NGOs who work for consumer protection.

(iii) Strong strictures should be issues on all such companies that are acting as middle men (agents), for booking or selling consumer services etc. who are HIGHLY DEFICIENT in providing grievance redressal to consumers. (I might like to add, that on other occasions too, I have unfairly lost money with Redbus, which is a particularly bad agent.)

It will also serve as a strong deterrent to all other websites/middle men who provide deficient service.
