I purchased a Motorola Moto G52 smartphone on 10 July 2022 (Invoice attached). After normal, careful usage with no physical damage, drops, or mishandling, a permanent green vertical line appeared on the display without any external cause.
Upon research, I discovered this is a widespread, documented manufacturing defect affecting thousands of Moto G52 units across India. The defect is caused by a faulty p-OLED display panel (supplied by Samsung) in which certain pixels receive irregular voltage, resulting in a permanent green line. This is confirmed by multiple complaints filed on this platform, Lenovo/Motorola Forums, Reddit, and covered by media outlets. The issue is NOT caused by user misuse — it appears spontaneously, often triggered by software updates pushed by Motorola itself.
When I approached Motorola’s service center, they demanded approximately ₹7,800–8,000 for display replacement citing “out of warranty,” completely disregarding that this is a manufacturing defect. Motorola has acknowledged this as a defect in other cases and replaced displays free of cost, yet is inconsistently denying the same to many customers including me.
This constitutes deficiency in service and unfair trade practice under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. The company sold a product with a latent manufacturing defect and is now refusing to take responsibility. I request the following:
Free replacement of the defective display, OR
Full refund of the purchase amount, OR
Replacement of the handset with a new unit of equal or higher value.
