It is exactly like this fraud complaint (https://consumercomplaintscourt.com/fraud-promotion-by-phone-call-on-the-name-amazon-order/) .
They told me that they are from Amazon’s Promotional Sales Department and I got a gift.
It was a high-value gift and I should have thought beforehand that it might be a scam.
But, unfortunately, everything seemed so legit and I didn’t suspect anything illegal.
They told me if I buy anything for 5000 I would be getting the gift ( they gave me 5 options of electronic appliances whose price ranged from 40k to 60k ).
After I put the 5000 gift card in my cart they transferred the call to the payments department and they told me to do a UPI transaction and after that, they told me to send the transaction of the UPI receipt to their WhatsApp.
I did that too (unfortunately) and after that, they told me to check my amazon orders section but I couldn’t see my order for I have just given 5000 rs and they told me that there is an error and I would need to pay 18% SGST and they will refund it.
It was late but I got suspicious, and after I said I would like to cancel everything and refund my amount, they told me this order is in the pending state so it wouldn’t be done by usual methods.
They said something about RRF ( reverse return federation ). and they sent me some criteria that my account should be a savings account and it has UPI enabled and at least 30000 rs balance (the last point was suspicious again )
I told them I don’t have this much amount in my account, they told me it’s mandatory.
The suspicion cleared when they told me to put 29986 in the amount section of my UPI app (google pay) and comment as some random alphanumeric code –> RRF01CXSN
They told me that the RRF page would be opened after I click continue. I took a chance and put 29 rs only in the amount section to check if the RRF page opens or not.
The usual thing happened, 29 rs was debited from my account which clears out all the doubts now.
