I am Suhasini Jha and I am writing this as we have received an electricity bill of over 50 thousand rupees for 5 months even though we paid 1500-1800 every month for those 5 consecutive months. The officials in the Vasai West department of Mahavitran claim that the bill is a result of excessive electricity usage in the lockdown. However, it’s not true. We had requested a change in the meter as the old one was showing above 33 units even when all electric appliances at home were switched off. The new ‘tester’ meter highlighted the discrepancy after it showed correct reading of about 10 units in 24 hours. Me and my family are tired of disputing their demand of bill payment especially after it was proved that this was due to faulty meter and not because of our over usage.

Please let us know what else can we do to avoid paying this high electricity bill.
