I am an old customer of Vodaphone (Cell no, 9811456946) for over a decade now. While traveling to US many times in the past 10 years, I have always carried my phone with me to enable me use of it till reaching the airport both while leaving the country and upon returning.
In June 2018, I visited the relevant webpage of Vodafone and subscribed for incoming sms while in US costing a specified sum of Rs 149. There was no mention of any other charges as the maximum sum payable was set at Rs 149.
At my first transit halt lasting a little over an hour at Heathrow airport in London UK (late on 18/6/18 GMT corresponding to early 19/6 IST), I put my phone on to check incoming sms. One of the messages was from Vodafone advising that data charges would apply to my phone, and asking me to reply ‘N’ to that sms if I did not want data/ such charges. I immediately sent that ‘N’ message.
Then my phone was off for next 10=12 hours on a flight to US. I did put on my phone at 2 further transit halts before arriving at my final US destination to check sms. Finding that a lot of charges were nevertheless I was finally forced to remove my SIm from the phone on 21/6, with full details duly advised to Vodafone India in 15-20 emails.
On return to India on 25/7/18, I found my phone was not operating, Thereafter, Vodafone has put the phone on for a day or two and then restricted services.
The matter was taken up with ‘Customer Care’ and ‘Nodal’ authorities in a total of over 40 phone calls and emails and I am unable to use my phone as services thereon are “restricted”.
I request for reversal of these unauthorised charges and restoration of use of my phone.
