Text of Complaint by Rajat Arya:

Oneplus had issued a buggy update for android 13 due to which thousands of customers using Oneplus 8T, 9 & 9R got a green line on display. I am one of those customer using OnePlus 8T which got green line on their display after updating the phone with the latest version of Android 13.
Upon contacting Customer Care through their OnePlus Care app on 19.12.2022, the representative assured me that many users are facing the issue after the latest update & the faulty display will be replaced for all such devices, even those which are out of warranty, provided there is no physical or water damage on the phone and you can go to your nearest service centre & get the display replaced free of cost after they make sure there is no physical or water damage.
Immediately I called up the OnePlus service centre in Phoenix Mall, Chennai & they informed me that they are aware of the issue & will be replacing the display free of cost, but due to the lack of stock of OnePlus 8T screen, kindly visit the service centre after 1 week when the stock will be replenished.
On 27.12.2022, I visited the service centre in the morning for the same & their representative told me that few days back they received an internal policy for not replacing the display free of cost for phones older than 24 months from the date of purchase. Also, he claimed that they had replaced display of out of warranty phones older than 24 months before the issue of this internal policy a few days back itself. He said that the replacement cost for the new display is around Rs. 14,500.

This is a big fraud that the mobile companies are doing by damaging the phones by issuing OTA Updates full of bugs that cause the hardware to malfunction & causing the customers to shell out their hard earned money to repair a perfectly well maintained phone for which they had paid a fortune in the first place.
Thousands of people all over India and the world are facing the same issue since the update causing their cheap quality hardware imported from CHINA to malfunction due to the buggy software update issued by the company.
Please take cognizance of the actions of the company and provide swift justice by having them replace their faulty display free of cost at the earliest!

  1. I had the same green line issue with my OnePlus 8 Pro, I also contacted the OnePlus Customer Care and they told me that I can claim a free of cost display repair if there are no physical or water damage (on 21.12.2022). Then, I booked a repair through the OnePlus Care app, they picked up the device on 22.12.2022. Today, (30.12.2022) , they contacted me and told that I’ve to pay for the repair because the device was out of warranty (an amount of Rs.17,000). I enquired about this on their Customer Care and they are now saying that they only provide the free of cost display repair for the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8T devices and not for OnePlus 8 Pro. I have the three call recordings with the Service Center and Customer Care. I also filed a complaint against them just a minute ago. I HAVE THE CALL RECORDING OF THEM SAYING THE FREE OF COST DISPLAY REPAIR IS ONLY FOR ONEPLUS 8 AND ONEPLUS 8T.

  2. I’m facing the same issue brother and got call today 30-Dec to pay INR 14000 to change the display for 8T. Where can I raise complaint? Will they service at free of cost?

    1. I have the same issue. started facing this last week. If service centre won’t provide screen replacement free of cost, I’ll file the complaint in consumer court as well.
