Text of Complaint by Priya:

I am writing to formally raise a complaint against Jio and Airtel regarding the unauthorized deactivation and reassignment of my long-standing mobile number, which I have been using for over 16+ years and is linked to my bank accounts, Aadhaar, PAN and other critical services.

Due to unforeseen personal and medical circumstances while I was abroad, I was temporarily unable to actively use or manage my mobile number. During this period, Jio deactivated my number without any prior notice, warning, or communication. There was no SMS, email, or any form of intimation regarding potential deactivation or its consequences.

Subsequently, the same number was reassigned/ported to Airtel without my knowledge or explicit consent. This constitutes a serious lapse in telecom procedures and consumer protection norms.

Further, Airtel issued the number to another individual without conducting proper verification, despite the number being previously linked to my Aadhaar and other identity credentials. This raises significant concerns regarding compliance with KYC norms and data security obligations under telecom regulations.

I became aware of this issue only after receiving a communication related to the number, following which I immediately attempted to engage with Airtel. However, despite repeated follow-ups:

My concerns were not addressed adequately

No proper investigation was initiated

No resolution or accountability was provided

Additionally, there appears to be inconsistent and arbitrary service handling, where my number was deactivated swiftly, while the current holder has been allowed to retain and use the number without similar scrutiny or action over an extended period.

This incident has resulted in:

Loss of access to banking, OTPs, and essential services

Potential security and identity risks

Significant mental stress and inconvenience

This matter raises serious concerns under:

Consumer Protection Act, 2019

TRAI Telecom Consumer Protection Regulations

KYC compliance norms for telecom subscribers

I request the following actions:

Immediate investigation into the unauthorized deactivation and reassignment of my number

Restoration of my original mobile number at the earliest

Detailed explanation of how the number was reassigned without due verification

Accountability from both Jio and Airtel for negligence and procedural lapses

Appropriate compensation for the loss, inconvenience, and risk caused

I request urgent intervention, as this issue involves serious violations of consumer rights, data security, and telecom regulatory compliance.
