Text of Complaint by Pradeep Sati:

Hi, I am a resident of Bengaluru city and went through a mental trauma yesterday (17th Nov’22) when a bescom executive came and disconnected my power during the day time due to non payment of electricity bill for 1 month. We were never approached before disconnecting the power and we didn’t received any notice before disconnection as per the rules.

When approached to confirm the reason they stated that your payment for last month was due hence we disconnected the connection and we are not suppose to give you any notice. I did informed that the new bill was generated on 11th Nov’22 and it reflected online only on 12th Nov’22 post which there was a glitch in online payments for Bescom for which an advisory was also shared by the department hence the delay but they didn’t listen to anything and told me to make the payment and immediately the connection will be restored.

I did the payment and shared the screenshot with the executive post which he stopped responding to my calls and no one came to restore the power. My family was without power for almost 8 hrs. It got restored only when I called a local electrician to come and join the cable.

1. – As per my knowledge I was supposed to receive a notice before disconnection.
2. – As a human being, if a call would have been made before disconnection would have been apt or visit to my flat stating the overdue would have saved all the trouble.
3. – Only the fuse is supposed to be removed but the executive even cut the main cable to the meter for which I had to hire an electrician.
4. – As per the guidelines, power should be restored once the payment is done on the same day for the city limits and next day for rural areas but no one came to restore the power even after number of followups.
5. – When I called the executive, he handed over the phone to AE who asked me to come to office to discuss anything.

In between all this, my wife almost had a panic attack who is still recovering from a post portem, there was no power for almost 8hrs at home due to which most of the important works got halted, during this fuse removal and wire cutting I lost my WiFi router adapter and my official work also got impacted on 18th Nov’22 morning. I was in office during this incident and was not able to concentrate on my work the whole day because of this situation.

I need a compensation against this mental harassment from BESCOM which impacted my office work and family suffering.
