Text of Complaint by RAJESH KUMAR SINGH:

Team, This is to bring to your notice on the dispute I raised for my airtel mobile number 9052511966, this month I have received a bill amount of rupees 10,200.17.,

I have been told that I used my Data services in UK during my travel from 1st July to 16th July, I never activated data services before my departure to UK, I had activated a 149rupees basic plan to receive incoming calls. And I come back to the shock that I have been charged 10,200.17 for using data services for 1.3 GB.

I had a Lebara SIM which I used during my entire stay and never switched on my Airtel data services. I did visit the Airtel store at Raheja Mindspace, Building 9, Hyderabad and RGIA Airport to confirm that I will not be charged for receiving inbound calls, I was assured that the 149 plan was activated and wont we charged anything extra.

Not sure why Airtel activated my data and send me a bill for 10,200.00 rupees, During my appeal to appellate team I did clarify that I never activated data services and was charged the amount for using 1.3 GB which is a ridiculously high amount as I paid 1300 for 10 GB data on my Lebara SIM,

Today, 24th August the lady from the Appellate team confirmed that there was an email sent to manually switch off data, this is quite surprising as when I do not internet when abroad, they expect me to read mails on my mobile. Airtel has refused to waive the below charges because of their inefficient ways of handling customers who are travelling to a different country.

After I raised the dispute on 20th August, I did explain to the colleague that I have never activated any other plan so not sure the other charges of 649 daily for 7 days totalling to 4543 was charged to my account.

I therefore would like you to please review my appeal and do justice by recovering my amount which was incorrectly applied for data usage INR 3147 and One time charges INR 4543 and Tax of 1554.84 to my account so they don’t cancel my services.

On 23rd August 2018, I received a text message from Airtel stating, Dear Customer, with reference to the service request no 87168960, the billing dispute on your Airtel Mobile has been resolved and waiver has been credited to your mobile a/c.

If not satisfied with the resolution, contact 198 or Appellate to raise an appeal.

After calling the 198 number, I was told that the message sent was incorrect and I was only refunded for INR 12 for some incorrect charges, THIS IS A JOKE, as I never raised a dispute for INR 12 and you send a text to confirm that it’s been resolved but when I call the number I hear a different story, this is truly appalling service and I am really disappointed with the way the complaint was handled, I had to call the appellate team to go through the same thing again.

No one from the Airtel team has bothered to take ownership and help me with the queries and concerns raised, the only thing I was told by the teams are that I have used the service and I need to pay the bill.. I feel disgusted to have moved back to Airtel as I never received such service from my previous service providers. I had another Lebara SIM and Hotel WIFI so there is no reason for me to use the data during my stay.

Please look into the matter with urgency, and help me recover the amount as I have no money to pay the Airtel providers for their mistake, I have also been made aware by my colleagues that Airtel has a very impolite way of dealing with customers who don’t pay their bills and they threaten the customers to be arrested.

If I don’t hear a solution within 3rd September, the billing date I will be forced to pay the bills as I don’t want any hassle for my family.
