My number 9845008914 was wrongly billed for over Rs 2.9 lakhs for data usage during my visit to Maldivies in February 2019. My phone has international roaming enabled for the last two years and I have never seen such a bill ever before. In Maldives, my roaming was not working. There were no calls received or made. And I used hotel wifi and another local SIM card for data use.
These are the issues I have been facing since then:
- When I got in touch with customer care after I received messages regarding this amount, they asked me to wait for my bill to be generated so that the issue can be addressed.
- The bill was generated after a month’s delay, and I registered a compliant and another one subsequently because the issue was not sorted. These are my unresolved complaint numbers – 31-1344698352446 and 31-1469535577687.
- This bill amount is illogical in every way. One should not be charged like this because one switched on one’s phone.
- My phone bill overdue credit is at around Rs 42000. How does one have a functioning number since February if the bill amount exceeds that?
- Even after filing complaints, and being in touch with customer care, I now have my data cut. I have been receiving calls to say my incoming calls will be barred. I have collection agents being sent to my house to collect this sum.
These few months of following about about this absurd amount against my data usage during a time when my phone network was not even working has caused me too much mental tension and distress. I am writing in again as a last resort and expect some sort of attention to be paid to this issue. Failing which, I will need to take this up with consumer court.
