In February 2020, I had a booked a domestic tourist travel package for 3 family members including me, from Bengaluru to Katra, HP, Delhi and Haridwar from 6th April 2020 to 20th April 2020 through Makemytrip.com. The amount paid for the package was Rs.65,000/- by Credit Card. However, due to nationwide lockdown due to COVID-19, all flights were cancelled during this period. Hotels were also closed as per Government order.
During last week of March 2020 itself, I had informed Makemytrip.com by email and through call to their Customer Cares, to cancel the full package and give a full refund. However, the Company did not respond even after several reminder emails/calls. Finally after several months of follow up, an email was received in August from one Akshay Manocha of the Company. As per him, they offered a change of dates for the package. I refused, since the COVID pandemic was still raging. He alternatively offered to refund only a maximum of Rs.31,000 and give an additional travel voucher of Rs.5000. Third option was a future dated travel voucher of Rs.50000.
I threatened to take legal action, but the Company could not improve the offer. Finally, Under Protest, I agreed to accept the refund of Rs.31,000 plus 5000 gift voucher. I received this partial refund on 2nd Sep 2020.
However I still wish to initiate legal action in the Consumer forum for the balance amount of Rs.34,000 + legal costs. I understand that the Airlines and Hotels booked by the Company would have refunded the full amount of Rs. 65,000/- to the Company, i.e. MakemyTrip.com. But they have paid me back only Less than 50% of the booking amount. This is arbitrary and illegal
