I have been applying jobs on naukri and linked in portals for a good time now, few days back got a call from a recruiter stating she’s from shine portal and that she has viewed my resume. She upfrontly confirmed me about my total work experience and name of my last company. Later she sent me a link of shine portal in whatsapp and told me to register while being on the call. She was numerously telling me we do not ask for any money from you nor anyone so you dont have to pay anything. While registering i noticed a payment of Rs 10 was already selected and i had to enter my details like mob no, mail-id and address. Upon asking her regarding the amount she told me it was refundable and that there wont be any other charges apart from 10rs. I was little surprised and told her upfrontly that i need time to think since there are many online scams and even though 10 rs is not a big deal i will have to think. Soon, next day she kept on calling and texting if i had registered and to send her screenshot after the payment has been done. I went to the link and saw there were only 3 options of payment- debit card, credir card and net banking. There was an option to enter some security agent code which she had provided before doing the payment. I entered the credentials and proceeded forward by choosing debit card payment since 10rs was not a high amount. Luckily i used a bank account which only had 50 rs in it. After entering the debit card details it redirected me to anther page which usually does not appear when you do an online payment. There were 2 options and i had to enter my mob no and then the email-id upon which i recevied the OTP. I entered the otp without looking at the whole text as on the payment page it was still 10rs. My transaction kept getting failed due to insuffiecient balance. Upon checking the OTP message i realized what a big scam i was getting into. The otp message was to deduct 4110 twice and 2500 once which is why my process kept getting failed. Soon, i checked the review and saw thousands of complaints with similar story. I am very relieved and feel lucky for a minor decision that i made even though i was aware of such scams.
