Seller Details: I purchased an electronic product from Radhe Electronics, owned by an acquaintance of my father. The product was priced at 57,000 rupees.
No-Cost EMI Offer: On purchasing, I was offered a 10-months no-cost EMI option, which I agreed upon. The transaction was made using my HDFC bank credit card. The seller used the Benow merchant service to convert this payment into EMIs.
Discrepancy in Bank Statement: After the transaction, my bank statement reflected a 9-month tenure instead of the promised 10 months. When I raised this concern with the seller, he assured me that the difference would be credited back to me as cashback within 90 days.
False Assurance: 90 days passed without any cashback. On inquiring again, the seller then claimed the cashback would be provided after the completion of all EMIs, but this did not happen.
Bank’s Stand: Upon consulting with HDFC bank customer care, I was informed that no-cost EMIs are only available for 3, 6, 9, or 12 months, and there is no provision for a 10-month tenure. They clarified that I had been misguided by the seller.
Unresponsive Merchant: I tried reaching out to Benow, the merchant service involved in this transaction, but I have received no response or clarification from them.
As a result of this discrepancy, I ended up paying an extra 4,886.27 rupees on a product worth 57,000 rupees. The seller had initially mentioned that after all charges and GST, my total amount payable would be 57,606.70 rupees.
I have raised complaint to Benow and HDFC as well. But both are saying that it is now our fault.
