i posted an ad on olx, a lady called priya kumari immediately contacted me and said she will pay nearly the whole amount after pretending to negotiate. she then asked me to provide my number to coordinate, asked me for my location and used some fake names of deliverypersons that will come in about half an hour from the call. then said their shop sells secondhand furniture called star furniture in an obscure part of the city of sale. insisted they have a google listing. did not find them anywhere and insisted on a video call and they said they’ll send a photo instead and gave a photo that i recognised as ai generated. please see attached. i used the photo on google lens to reverse search and even found the original image that was mutilated for this ai generated one, on which clearly instagram was used to superimpose the photos of the scammer.
next, on paytm they started a split payment group by making a payment request of 5 rupees and then 25000 to pretend they had sent the money agreed upon, when it was actually a request from me. then i stalled to back out safely after being satisfied with how far i played the situation out to report it, and since the caller started using aggressive agitated speech to make it seem as though he was the one being wronged.
after blocking and deleting and reporting on whatsapp and olx, i found that another person was pulling an identical scam immediately after!
