Text of Complaint by Anirban Deb:

Dear Sir/Madam,

This is in reference to my Loan Account No. XXXX8778.
I’m Anirban Deb and a personal loan customer of your esteemed organization.
My registered email id is: [email protected]
Unfortunately, the number I registered with you while availing of the loan is lost and I’m using a new number: 9051538983
At the time of availing the loan in the month of August 2020, I was working at IBM India Pvt Ltd. But unfortunately in December 2020, I was laid off and I’m still jobless. In this situation, it is becoming increasingly difficult for me to continue with the payment of the EMI which is Rs. 18,522 per month.
I had lost my mother a year back, I have my ailing father to support as well as my wife and two little daughters, both of whom are below 10 years of age.
This mail might get a little bigger than usual, but to elaborate on the harassment that I’m facing from the IDFC collection agents, may I please request you to co-operate with me.

My EMI of Rs. 18,522 started in the month of October 2020 and continued till December 2020 without failure. But once I was laid off in December 2020, the EMI bounced in the month of January. Around the 20th of January, a person came from IDFC named Appu Lal (7439340679) for collection and I mentioned that I had lost my job and was unable to pay the EMI. He came again on the 21st of January and connected to another person named Aryan (6289058696) who claimed to be a manager of IDFC. Mr. Aryan was extremely rude and was shouting at the top of his voice and was asking me to sell gold or any of my belongings and pay him the EMI. My wife tried to describe the situation that we were in at that time but he was very rude to my wife as well. He made us send him an SMS which stated that I would be paying two months’ EMIs on the 29th of January.
I was unable to arrange the money by the 29th of January when Appu Lal came once again and this time with another person Jhanti Karmakar (9007334135) and they told me to arrange two EMIs by the 21st of February. As a token of assurance that I would be paying the loan, they took my iPad from me which they promised to return once I pay them the EMIs.
This time, however, I was able to pay the two EMIs on the 23rd of February from the money I borrowed from my friend and they returned my iPad to me.
My EMI bounced again in the month of March and Jhanti Karmakar visited me to collect the EMI which I could not pay. So, he connected me to Mr. Aryan who once again started shouting at me in the rudest manner and demanded that I pay the EMI right then by selling off anything I have. I then had a discussion with Jhanti Karmakar and I told him that I would try to arrange as many funds as possible. This time Jhanti Karmakar, once again, took my iPad and a Samsung Galaxy Tab with him.
All this time they were aware that I’m jobless.
In the meantime, my father was having trouble with blood oozing out from his ears and having chest pain.
A few days later Jhanti Karmakar visited me and I told him that I can pay as much as Rs. 8500, which I did and I told him that I would try to make the rest of the payment as soon as possible. After a few days, I paid him Rs. 3,000 more.
My EMI bounced in April and this time Jhanti Karmakar once again connected me to Mr. Aryan who literally threatened me with very abusive language. I told them that I would try to arrange the remaining funds by the end of April, although I did not know how I could arrange them.
Yesterday, on the 21st of April, Mr. Aryan called me from Jhanti Karmakar’s mobile and told me that if I fail to pay the remaining amount by today (22nd April), he would sell off my iPad and the Samsung Galaxy Tab to a person called Sunit Mukherjee (this is a person whom I know) who was immediately taken in the conference by Mr. Aryan and with Mr. Sunit Mukherjee in line Mr. Aryan once again started abusing saying that if I fail to make the payment today he would break both the iPad and the Galaxy Tab and that too, in front of me. Then he started threatening me that today when he visits me he would take away my laptop, my television sets, my fridge, and everything that I have. Then he told me that if I make the payment the next week, he would charge an extra Rs. 7,800 for the iPad and the Samsung Galaxy Tab to be returned to me.
Mr. Jhanti Karmakar, on the other hand, told me to arrange the money by today otherwise he would show me the consequences.

They had given me a call again yesterday (27-Apr-2021) saying that they would come down to my house on 28-Apr-2021 and speak to my wife regarding the same and threatened to take away my laptops, TV, Fridge and all my belongings.

It felt like I was speaking to some goons and not some people who claim to be working in a reputed organization.
My wife is very frightened after hearing the conversations.
Requesting you to please help me with this.
I live in a reputed neighborhood and Mr. Aryan and Jhanti Karmakar, by all means, mean harm and defamation to me and my family.
I realize that I’m unable to continue with my EMIs but in my jobless condition I’m helpless.

Requesting you to please help me with this. Please.

Thanks & Regards,
Anirban Deb
