Text of Complaint by William Thiry:

I am writing to file a complaint against Spectrum regarding their unethical and abusive behavior, which has left me feeling victimized and powerless. As a disabled individual on a fixed income, I urgently seek your intervention to address this matter and prevent it from happening to other customers.

Recently, I received an email from Q Link, posing as a government program offering free cell phone service for low-income individuals. They requested my phone number and current provider information, and before I knew it, my number was ported out without my explicit consent. When I attempted to retrieve my number through Spectrum, I was informed that I needed to pay the remaining $700 on my phone to reactivate it, as the porting out had broken my payment plan contract.

Despite paying $700 at a Spectrum store to unlock my phone, I was later informed that it could not be unlocked due to a $0.07 balance. When I tried to pay this amount, I was told it was too small to charge a card, and cash was not accepted. They then demanded another $60.31 in surprise fees and still did not unlock my phone. One tech even suggested the billing department might be acting out of spite.

After expressing my dissatisfaction, the store staff called the police on me. The officers, upon hearing my story, were equally shocked and left without taking any action against me. Despite having fully paid my balance, my phone remains locked. I have been treated rudely, accused of lying, victim-shamed, and have felt outright robbed by Spectrum. To add insult to injury, I was refused an itemized receipt or a copy of the chat transcript.

This situation is outrageous and unacceptable. I urge you to investigate this matter thoroughly and hold Spectrum accountable. I was informed today, on day four of this ordeal, that it could take up to two months to resolve. I am being gaslit and refused communication with supervisors.
