A person claiming to be an Indian Army Officer is actively scamming people operating as part of an organised criminal group targeting homeowners and property owners who are looking to rent their flats or offices. Especially in Mumbai and Bangalore calling from +91 88240 18426
The person calling himself as Akshay Kumar Chennamaneni is using fake identification saying that he works for Indian Army and looking for house / flat to rent with his wife and a child because of his recent transfer in the city nearby. The fraudster will then ask you to share property photos and will agree to rent immediately and he will be willing to pay a deposit / token money in advance. He will then say that his senior officer will confirm the deposit via online transaction from an Indian Army Bank Account. They will then ask you to add and link the bank account to your UPI such as Phone Pay, G-Pay, Paytm or online banking so they can transfer the deposit. Please note Indian Army doesn’t operate this way so please be extra vigilant about this criminal group and fraudsters whilst the Central Bureau of Investigation and Cyber Cell track and trace their operations and location.
Several cases have been identified linking back to this criminal group and reported online to our Cyber Cell and Indian Army Support. So if you receive a phone call or message from any online property selling and renting website claiming to be an Army officer then please report to your nearest police station or online to the Cyber Cell immediately and block those numbers. Please do not share any personal details without full verification as this could lead to your Identify Theft and financial loses.
