Earlier this morning, my partner residing in India received a suspicious WhatsApp message from an unknown number offering a job opportunity to earn passive income. Unfortunately, this was not the first time he had received such messages. Over the past few days, he had been bombarded with similar messages daily.
To catch these scammers, I decided to gather evidence by pretending to be interested in their offer. I texted the same number from a different WhatsApp number, claiming that I, too had received messages from them in the past. In response, the scammer offered to pay me Rs. 180 to like and follow their social media accounts.
I asked her about the company name and location and for proof of payments. She claimed to be from ‘GigIndia Human Resources Department,’ located on Mumbai Ground Floor, Fleet Building, Marol Junction, Andheri East, Mumbai. She stated that she gathers contact details from recruitment companies like Talent Tranck, when I asked her how she gets phone numbers.
However, her answers were too fast and seemed pre-planned, leading me to suspect that they were computer-generated. To test this theory, I engaged her further, and sure enough, every response was computer-generated.
Further investigation on Google confirmed my suspicion that ‘GigIndia Human Resources Department’ or someone pretending to be them is indeed a scam. Several complaints against them have been reported, which I saw on Google. I urge the Indian government and consumer protection court to take strict actions against such scammers.
It is crucial to stay vigilant and be wary of such offers that sound too good to be true. Always research and verify the authenticity of any job offers or investment opportunities before committing your time, money, or personal information.
