I bought a new number at the store for Rs 250 on my aadhaar card number. I discovered later that I had been handed a number that was already registered for another user. This user has accounts of various services like Flipkart, Airtel Payments Bank etc already linked to this number. The Airtel Store has given a contact number which does not work or which they do not pick. When I visited the store in person, the uneducated staff there tried to suggest it was my fault that I did not ask for a fresh number and only a new number! When I protested, they refused to issue a new number or refund this number. Upon repeated insistence, the store manager photocopied my aadhaar card and suggested that the number will be deactivated from the other account in two months, a completely useless and preposterous exercise. He gave me no complaint number or time frame. My number and personal details are vulnerable to all kinds of digital theft including sim cloning and account hacking. The company’s helpline has expressed their inability to help me.
