I am an Indian citizen. I am currently working in Zambia.
I got this job offer in Zambia in September-October 2020 and was scheduled for travel on 19th October 2020. I needed connectivity (International Mobile Roaming facility) especially SMS service for all my banking and other related services. I approached my service provider Airtel and wads informed that the service was not available in this country – i.e. Zambia.
I then approached Jio in Mumbai’s Dahisar West region and was informed that the service was available through Jio provided I ported my Airtel mobile number to Jio. I agreed to port the number based on the information that I received and was further told that I need to visit the Jio Store after the porting process was completed and 24 hours prior to leaving India for activating the service i.e. International Mobile Roaming facility.
I did all the formalities for the porting from Airtel to Jio and the process was completed. On 18th October, I visited the Jio Store in Dahisar West to get the International Mobile Roaming facility activated but to my disbelief, I was told that the facility does not exist and that it was a mistake on the part of the store staff. They frantically called the Area Manager and confirmed that the facility was not available.
I was left with no options and had to fly out of the country the next day without the International Mobile Roaming facility.
I kept connecting with the Store from Zambia and they kept telling me that they are looking into the matter and now after so much time they have disconnected my number permanently and are saying that the number cannot be activated.
ALL MY ACCOUNTS AND EVERY TRANSACTION OF MINE IS LINKED TO MY MOBILE NUMBER…INCLUDING AADHAR CARD, PAN CARD, RATION CARD, PASSPORT, DRIVING LICENCE, BANK ACCOUNT, everything. And Jio very casually are simply saying that I should visit Reliance store and get a new connection.
This is harassment on the part of Jio and a big loss to me as I cannot transact and service without this number as all is linked with it to get OTP etc.
