Dear Sir,
I am Rakesh Kothari, I am a customer/consumer of Adani Electricity Mumbai Suburban Power Distribution area (My consumer No. 152718803). I am writing to you, to bring to your attention the wrongful Holding Charges that Adani Electricity is charging to all their customers in Mumbai.
I have just received their Bill for the month of June 2020 vide Bill No.: 101623664696 Dtd. 11/07/2020.
In this Bill they have charged me Holding Charge adjustment amount of Rs. 114.69
Apparently for the 3 months of March, April & May 2020 they have charged me a Carrying Charge cost of Rs. 60.21, Rs. 36.46 & Rs. 18.02 respectively totalling Rs. 114.69/-.
I inquired with them to clarify the reason for charging me Carrying Cost. As per the Bill it seems to be showing me that the Carrying cost is for difference in Assumed consumption of Electricity Units vis-a-vis the actual consumption of units. Regarding the same I would like to inquire as to how me or any other consumer is responsible for making less payment and thereby Carrying Cost should be levied to me. I have received bills for the months of March, April & May 2020 from their end which were taken on assumed consumption of Electricity units. The same amounts have been paid by me, before the schedule/due date. Thereby I am not responsible for the lapse on the part of Adani Electricity company which has billed me for less units and is now charging me CARRYING COSTS for the 3 months. Due to Corona Pandemic and ensuing Lockdown if Adani Electricity was unable to send someone to verify the actual consumption of electricity units and thereby billed me on average consumption for 3 months, there is no mistake on my payment. The lapse is clearly due to their inability to have the meter reading checked and the correct amount being charged to my bill.
However when i sent them an email asking for clarification for the wrongful holding charges billed to me, they have replied saying that the MERC has approved charging of holding charges to the consumers for consuming more electricity than the average of the previous 3 months. This is patently wrong act on their part, after all if the Adani Electricity Distribution company is unable to take the meter reading and thereby bill the consumers less amount, how is the consumer responsible for the reduced amount paid by him. Accordingly I will request you to please look into the matter and have Adani Electricity Distribution company reverse the carrying costs charged to me and all the consumers for the April, May & June months. Thanking you.
Regards,
Rakesh Kothari.
