Recently, I went on a trip to Nepal for two weeks. Since it’s a free WiFi everywhere in Nepal, i didn’t activate any International Roaming packages and so were my friends who were using the Airtel numbers. But the Airtel people have activated International Roaming on my number without my consent while my friends sim card showed no Service, I had tower range. But I didn’t make any calls or receive any calls when i was there In Nepal. I have been using Free WiFi across and wherever the WiFi dropped the mobile data has pushed. And I agree that i have used a certain amount of data (850 MB in total as per airtel records during the 2 weeks) but now they have sent me a bill for Rs. 4758/-. Even before raising the statement they reached out to me and told about the services they auto activated based on my usage. I clearly told them i didn’t request for roaming then on whose request have they activated this service for Rs.588 per day! They said they auto activated as they came to know i was in International location. Then i asked them why was the same service activated for my friend who was also using the same Airtel connection and was also a postpaid user. They had no answer, after arguing with them for 2 to 3 times, i told them, i am willing to pay a nominal amount for the data i have used but won’t agree for the other roaming charges which i have not availed, but still they have generated a bill with this amount. which is completely unacceptable. Just because they i have a billing credit value of 6000 rs, they want to cheat their customers by auto activating the services they have not requested for.
