Airtel have adopted a unique policy wherein they are giving Unlimited calls and data plans for a limited period for a fixed amount, which they denote as a “FIXED PLAN”. Once a person opts for any of these plans, he is tied up and is forced to continue in these plans, or else after the expiry of the time period of the plan the service provider stop outgoing and incoming call on that particular number. There is yet another account known as “Main Account” and the amount in this main account is of no use to the subscriber (unless he makes an international call – which nobody is using to call internationally due to availability of many online calling Apps). There are about 3.1 crore NRI staying in various countries outside India. Most of these NRI’s use the mobile SIM cards for Banking transactions or online purchases for their elderly parents or other family members. So for such NRI’s the “Fixed Plan” is not at all useful. To keep their SIM cards active these NRI’s recharge their Main Account Balance once every three months and this is leading to accumulation of hundreds and thousands of Rupees in the main account of these NRI’s. Hundreds of rupees from crores of NRI ( = Rs. 1500 crores approximately) is being held up with the service provider without the funds being used. Inspite of such a huge amount being held up with them they want us (NRI’s or others) to keep the “Fixed Plans” going on for which the recharge amount cannot be used from the main account it has to be paid separately. Moreover they deduct an amount of Rs. 23 /= without the consent of the customer and extend the validity of the “Fixed plan” for 28 days and this cycle continues month after month. Now NRI staying abroad cannot use the Fixed plans and they visit India once in a year or two and only then they start using their Indian SIM cards. Now my contention is that these mobile service providers are cheating upon the general public and confiscating crores of rupees and flourishing their own company. I want that these companies or atleast my service provider Airtel should change their policies so that they do not keep the money of their subscribers with them without use. NOTE: All NRI’s are not big shots and rich people 70 -80 % of NRI’s are hard working labours or students. My final request is that they should stop auto deduction of Rs. 23 /= from the subscriber. They should retrieve their previous plans wherein recharging an amount of Rs. 100 or above once in three months keeps the SIM active. Now-a-days Airtel needs us to recharge every 28 days, this is ridiculous. because in 2 years time an NRI would have accumulated Rs. 3000 /= in his main account and crores of NRI’s will contributes lots of money to these mobile service providers. There should be no need to inactive the services if the subscriber does not recharge every 28 days.
