I had purchased an expensive sofa from Stanley for Rs 1.5 lakh. This is a top of the line sofa with imported Italian leather and I was promised high quality and that the company would bear any defects.
Within one week of receiving the sofa it broke due to a faulty clamp. I shared pictures of the faulty component with Stanley and they sent a technician in one week. The technician came, inspected the damaged product, confirmed it was damaged and that a new component would have to be installed.
After a further week, two technicians from Stanley arrived with the new component, compared it to the existing component and confirmed that the component was damaged. However, they said that you can still use the sofa even with the broken component so they didn’t want to replace it. They said that since you are still able to sit on the sofa it is functional and therefore they wont fix it. The sofa had come apart into two separate pieces because the clamp connecting them was broken. However, since the legs werent damaged it was possible to sit on the sofa albeit not as one piece (which is what they had sold me).
The technicians refused to fix it and left. I filed a complaint with Stanley who made a number of contradictory claims;
1. First they claimed that the sofa was never defective. The photos ive shared with them prove it was. Also, their technician agreed it was defective and hence came back a week later with a replacement part.
2. They then claimed that my carpet had damaged the sofa and therefore they would not fix it. I cannot understand how a carpet can break a sofa in one week. They couldnt either.
3. After I explained the above to them and showed them the images again (they already had pictures), they finally agreed it was defective. However, they still refused to fix it citing that their head of factory had to visit the site in person before he would approve.
I told them that I cannot keep taking time off work and inviting more and more people to see the defective piece before they admit their mistake. They refused, saying it wont be possible without a third inspection. I told them I would get it fixed myself and they started harassing me multiple times a day demanding entry to my apartment.
This is clearly an attempt to get out of their commitment to honour their product warranty. I have kept recordings and screenshots of every conversation and filed multiple complaints. They have stopped replying to my multiple emails hence I am forced to take more dramatic next steps to seek resolution including filing a case. I strongly suggest you dont buy from Stanley
