I have been using Google Pay for a long time. I had made many payments as well. At first I had this phone number N1 registered with my bank account and thus I had registered the same with google pay as well. However, due to privacy issues and spam I have been receiving from the people, I changed my phone number to N2 and made all effort to relink this new phone number with my banks, other govt services, and google pay. Now I am using this number N2. The thing is I started getting the spams again to my new number which I have never disclosed to anyone other than my family and really closed ones – just to get rid of the spams and harassing calls. On my investigation, I could see that he got my number from Google Pay just coz I had made a payment with him before using my old phone number. The thing is I never asked google pay to disclose my phone number which I never used to transact with, nor I have given the permission to. Now am again spammed, leaving out the option to change the number again and I really can’t do that now. And only way to avoid this is to unlink my accounts from google pay and delete the app. I later confirmed with my friends that they are able to see my new number. I also tried with my father’s phone and still happens. And there is no option in the app to disable this feature- I felt am trapped. Just because I have made payments with them once, I never allow google pay to pass my personal information to other people who are not even in my contact list. Clearly a data privacy violation.
