Text of Complaint by Yukti Makkar:

I would like to register a grievance with respect to an Airtel Employee/Representative. Ms Sowmya Sathish (as the name told by her) claimed to be the Airtel Store owner in Jayanagar 3rd Block, Bangalore Store.
I had gone to the store to request for a replacement SIM as the original SIM has been damaged. The Executive there asked for damaged SIM. As the damaged SIM is with my ailing father who cannot walk, I had not got it to the store. The executive informed me that as the damaged SIM is not available, I will be charged Rs. 25/-. I agreed to the same.

On payment of Rs. 25/- I asked for a bill to which the store employees were reluctant. However on my insistence they gave me a bill with the line item mentioned a “new Nano Sim..”. I was expecting that charges are due to loss of original SIM, I was expecting the line item or somewhere in the invoice same thing would be mentioned. However the store employees failed to confirm why that is not mentioned. As a response I asked them to show me the written rule/policy where a customer is informed that if damaged SIM is not presented at the store, the store can charge Rs.25/-. To this request, the store employees said they don’t have any written rule or policy regarding the same.

Until this time Sowmya Satish who claimed to be store owner was sitting and listening to this conversation. However when the executive at bill desk refused to share the policy, Sowmya approached the bill desk and told the employee that “give her (that is me the customer) website link to see the rules”. Her tone was very rude and humiliating. I asked her, does she even know the problem, she said “I don’t care, and I am talking to my employee”…

This definitely is not expected by a store employee to the customer. And to add to above she told her employee “Don’t service this person, don’t give her the sim and if you have given, don’t activate it”

All of this she was doing after taking 25/- rupees from me. She humiliated me and used her power of position to refuse a service to me. And for what – “Because I asked for the Bill with the valid charge line item”… When I asked her name so that I can register a formal complaint, here response was “My name is Sowmya Sathish, and you can complaint to anyone you want, everyone in Airtel knows me”

She was extremely rude and humiliating.

I had to call 100 to have COP take a note of wrong doings of the store manager (as she claimed – She did not show ID card to confirm the same). At the same time another person named “Yogesh” who called himself as Zonal manager, came and calmly heard my issue. I reiterated “I am looking for 25Rs bill with correct charge line item mentioned”. He told me calmly, they don’t have that as an option in the billing list, but they can write in an email that charge is for Loss of SIM card. And I was absolutely fine with that.

Even then this lady Sowmya , tells the cop in local language which is translated as “I know you, I will call you later”. At every step she was trying to intimidate and humiliate me.

I absolutely don’t expect from Corporate like Airtel employee to misbehave with customer and use intimidation to humiliate the customer.

I would like to raise a Criminal case of defamation against Airtel for the harassment caused to me by one of their employee, however before I do so, please treat this as a formal complaint to Airtel about the incident.

I have also registered a complain on 121. The complaint number is 31-4100019116928
