Respected Sir/Madam,
I, Prashant Shah, a citizen of Nepal, wish to bring to your attention a serious case of harassment and discrimination faced by me during my stay in India for an examination.
On 5th October 2025, I had a confirmed booking through OYO at Hotel O Shyam Residency (Shyam Hotel Residency).
Before making the booking, I specifically confirmed with the OYO customer support team whether Nepali citizens are permitted to stay, and I was assured that there would be no such restriction.
However, upon arrival at around 9:00 AM, several incidents occurred that clearly reflect misconduct, discrimination, and harassment:
Upon reaching the hotel, the staff denied the existence of such a hotel at that location and refused to acknowledge my booking.
Only after 30 minutes of argument, they admitted that it was indeed the same hotel but asked me to come later for check-in at 12:00 PM.
At 12:00 PM, I was told that the AC was under repair and was made to wait for another 2 hours.
At 1:30 PM, I was informed that no room was available and again told to wait.
Finally, at 3:00 PM, I was asked to leave the hotel, being told that “Nepali citizens are not allowed.”
At 3:10 PM, I was forcibly asked to vacate the premises, despite having a valid confirmed booking.
Following this, I immediately contacted the OYO customer support team, and after a long call lasting around 2 hours and 30 minutes, all I received was a mere apology, without any real resolution, compensation, or assurance of corrective action.
This incident caused me immense mental stress, humiliation, and inconvenience.
It also raises a serious concern regarding the safety, dignity, and equal treatment of foreign nationals—particularly Nepali citizens—in India, who share deep cultural and diplomatic ties with the country.
I therefore request the concerned authorities to:
Conduct an immediate investigation into the conduct of the hotel staff and management.
Take appropriate action against OYO and the hotel for discrimination and harassment.
Ensure consumer safety and non-discrimination for all foreign nationals, especially Nepali citizens.
Provide a formal written apology and compensation for the harassment and inconvenience caused.
This matter reflects not only an individual grievance but also a serious international concern involving the treatment of Nepali citizens in India.
