My travel agent had booked me into a
“Luxury” cottage at Stoned Age Inn for a 2-night stay (4-6 Dec 2022).
I paid – in advance – a sum of INR 16500 at the rate of Rs. 8250/night.
I had looked forward to staying in a “Luxury cottage” based on what they
had on their website https://www.stonedage.in/ — of being “old school”
with “extreme comfort” and “competent manpower” in a “place of miracle”.
None of these claims bore a passing resemblance to truth.
I feel that I have been ripped off in my ‘stay’ at Stoned Age Inn and beyond
a refund I want to ensure that others do not fall victim to their bait and
switch.
I expected basic things to work at a ‘luxury’ cottage – first, there was no
advance information that the inn was a 30 minute walk from where the cars
had to stop!
There was no working shower in the bathroom and the staff told me that even
if the shower worked there would be no hot water in it.
The room was bitterly cold (December!) and after my complaining a small space
heater was brought in and the staff member stuck open wires into the open
socket (!) claiming that all will be well (even though I objected). The fuse
blew around midnight leading to *no heat* for the rest of the night (I did
not think it would be appropriate to wake up the poor staff members at 1am
to file a third complaint). This meant that I did not get any sleep on the only
night I spent there.
The next morning I had to wake up the staff at 8:30am (!) just to get a cup
of tea. And they were sleeping in a tent outside.
There was no question that I would move out of there – I then paid another
~4K INR for a different hotel for the second night (in Bhuntar).
I asked Stoned Age for a refund of the 2nd night that I COULD NOT stay
because of the inn’s broken infrastructure. In reality, I felt that they
should refund the entire amount.
Instead I received a snooty reply from the owner Rick saying that I should
have known about “remote” places. He has absolutely refused to refund one
solitary paise.
