I received a response on my rental advertisement from a fraudster posing as a sub inspector with army (CISF). He instantly liked the house based on images shared on Whatsapp, without even visiting once. He wanted to pay advance and close the deal immediately. He connected me to his accountant from head office. This person sent a QR code and wanted me to scan it so that I can receive the advance amount. He then called me again to convince me that it was a standard procedure for payments from Army. Being skeptical, I checked online and found multiple similar fraud cases. When the so called accountant from head office called again, I politely informed him that I would check with the police on this and get back to him. He then directed a volley of abuses at me and ended the call.
