Airtel has effectively stolen Rs. 2398 from me.
I wanted to recharge my prepaid airtel number with an yearly recharge plan of Rs. 2398 through airtel mobile app.
The first transaction was successful but I didn’t get any confirmation (money was taken from my amazon pay app though!)… So I thought I’d have to re-try the transaction and I did that. The second transaction also took money but I didn’t get any sms or success notification on airtel app. After about 2 minutes I get two SMSes telling me that both transactions are successful. After about a month of calling the customer care centers I came to know that when two transactions are successful one after the other, the second one “over-writes” the first plan in effect. This means I lost an entire year’s worth of plan through no fault of my own and Airtel has refused to refund me the amount for the first transaction! I’ve been an Airtel customer for 7 years and my family has been Airtel customers for 16 years. I guess after this year, I’m going to another service provider.
I hope people are aware of this fact going into Airtel. This kind of customer fleecing is why I decided to get rid of Airtel Broadband many years ago.
