FILE NOTE DISCONNECTION OF AIRTEL DONGLE SERVICES ON NUMBER 7899800650

On 27th April 2021 I had called Airtel 121 to report the loss of the Dongle bearing SIM with number 7899800650. The agent on the call confirmed that they have barred my number and on specifically asking her if I would be charged anything she said no considering that on 27th April I made the payment of Rs. 589.64 towards whatever was outstanding as bill charges. The agent went on to state that I could reactivate my number if I visited the airtel store. I told the agent I would not like to and asked her if I needed to visit an airtel store to disconnect, as Bangalore was under lockdown. She told me I need visit the store only if I want to reactivate my number and on specifically asking her if I would receive any further bills she said no because she has suspended my number. And she said I would be receiving a conformation email of the same as soon as the call was done.

Today 29th May at 10:30 AM I received a call from the number 9739143592 stating that my bill is due and I told the person (incidentally the number came up as a spam call subsequently on Truecaller) that my account was cancelled and why I should pay. To which he said that means customer is refusing to pay and action is to be taken. That was when I saw the truecaller report on the calling number and disconnected the call.

I called Airtel 121 subsequently after logging ibn to airtel.in portal on my account and I saw that a new bill had been generated on 18-May for the same number 7899800650 with a bill amount of Rs. 547 (Bill enclosed ) for the billing period 17-Apr-16-May.

On speaking to the agent the agent said that my number was only barred per Airtel records bit was suspended on 15-May however as the account was not closed hence why my number was suspended on 15-May and they had charged me till 15-May. I queried her as to how as a customer would I be aware that post my reporting of cancellation the Airtel process is to suspend and charge a customer for the month when explicitly I was assured by the agent I spoke to on 27-Apr that I would not be receiving any more charges. I was also told by the agent today on the call there is no way she can issue me a closure notice as they are not permitted from Airtel.

What triggers my anxiousness is the call today morning from a spammer that my bill is due which I have never received for any of my Airtel connections and then when I visit the Airtel site I see that a bill has been generated on 18-May for a number I had assumed was a closed topic on 27-Apr.

I request an investigation into this as the whole transaction reeks of data leakage and fraud and falsely charging customers.
