My name is S.Jayalaksmi, a Senior Citizen with hearing deficiency, residing at No.1945, 6th street, Vasantham Colony, Annanagar west, Chennai-600040. On 29/05/2020, my house EB meter reading pertaining to my EB connection No:169-009-234 was taken by EB official.
To my surprise, they charged Rs.6928/-. When I asked him how he had worked to get such huge amount, he simply said that he had raised the bill as per Government directions.
When I went and enquired the EB office in Annanagar, they also simply said that the bill is raised correctly. My january bill is Rs.2506. They did not take reading for Feb/March and so I have asked to pay the same Rs.2506/ that was paid for January.
In fact for the past 16 months, my maximum bill amount was Rs.5542/- for a consumption of 1070 units. But, now they have charged Rs.6928/- for 945 units. In reality, as per Government tariff working for 945 units it works to Rs.3957/-.
This huge increase in EB charges would not have taken place if EB reading was taken on March itself when Corona impact was lesser than MAY 2020. To be frank, EB department is trying to recover their loss by increasing the bill amount without any logic. Nobody is prepared to hear our grevances.
Already, we are suffering with heavy financial constraints due to CORONA lockdown.Unless, some permanent remedial legal action is taken, the whole community will be put into lot of hardships.
First, EB’s latest bill amount should be reworked and revised suitably. Further, EB should be advised to raise their bill on monthly basis as Telephone department. My phone number is: 044-26181937.
